Uses our existing database of potential advertisers as a starting point and updates it with new leads. Contacts potential advertisers and explains benefits of advertising with Austin Traveler. Makes sure ads get to us on time and are in the proper format. Follows up with advertisers on payments when needed. Pays 20% commission on paid ads. UNPAIDEvents coordinator: Plans and implements an event either once a month or once every other month, including Story Swaps, custom travel fair, advertiser nights, Alamo Drafthouse movie/food night, classes/workshops, etc. Markets events and gets press releases to the right places. Book club coordinator: Works with a partner bookstore and club members to develop schedule and agenda; organizes monthly meeting at either the partner bookstore or at a different advertiser’s space. Focus will be on reading short pieces of great travel writing and discussing what makes a well-written travel story. Design/layout intern: Uses templates as basic structure, then adds creativity in choosing photos or creating art/illustrations. Must know a layout program such as Quark or InDesign and have had some experience or classes in magazine or newspaper design. (This would be over three weeks in February, May, August and November.) Department editors: Either writes or works with writers to produce article for each issue. Plans topics with editor and publisher. Rounds up Web content as well as art for print version.
